Landscape ICLUP

Integrated Conservation & Land Use Planning

Landscape ICLUP (Integrated Conservation and Land Use Plan) is a landscape planning approach that brings together forest protection, high conservation value areas, and community livelihood zones into a single, jointly agreed land use plan.

Key Components of the Landscape ICLUP

1

1. Preparation & Group Organisation

Formation of smallholder and stakeholder groups, definition of the area of interest, and agreement on the workplan and timeline through village and community consultations.

2

2. Participatory Mapping

Developing a working map with communities to identify land cover, village boundaries, farmland, water sources, and areas that are important for local livelihoods.

3

3. Identification of HCS-HCV & Important Community Areas

Identifying high carbon stock forests, high conservation values, and important community areas such as customary forests, sacred sites, and critical ecosystem service zones.

4

4. Land Use Zoning

Designing conservation zones, production zones, agroforestry development areas, and community use zones through inclusive discussions and joint decision-making.

5

5. Management & Monitoring Plan

Developing a management and monitoring plan to safeguard conservation areas, restore degraded lands, and regularly monitor land cover changes.

6

6. Incentives, Benefits & Multi-stakeholder Governance

Linking the ICLUP with community incentives, green business opportunities, and governance mechanisms that involve farmers, local government, and other partners at the landscape level.
