Sanggau Regency is a forest landscape area in West Kalimantan where indigenous communities and partner villages actively participate in forest protection (Gunam, Marita, dan Embala), sustainable natural resource management, and community-based conservation initiatives.
Sanggau Regency is one of the regions in West Kalimantan that still retains important forest landscapes and indigenous territories that play a significant role in environmental protection and sustainable resource management. The region is home to various local and indigenous communities that continue to preserve traditional values, ecological knowledge, and sustainable practices in maintaining forest ecosystems.
Through collaboration with the Farmers For Forest Protection Foundation (4F), several partner villages in Sanggau Regency, including Gunam Village, Marita Village, and Embala Village, have strengthened their commitment to protecting forest areas and supporting sustainable environmental management. These villages actively participate in community-based conservation initiatives aimed at preserving biodiversity, protecting customary forests, and strengthening local resilience.
The partnership encourages participatory approaches in forest governance, environmental education, community empowerment, and sustainable livelihood development. Various activities are implemented to improve local capacity in forest monitoring, conservation practices, natural resource management, and strengthening the role of indigenous communities as forest guardians.
By integrating local wisdom, customary values, and collaborative conservation strategies, Sanggau Regency continues to demonstrate the importance of community participation in protecting forests and ensuring long-term ecological sustainability for future generations.
