Summary
An Indonesian sustainability and environmental issues expert who has contributed extensively to global discussions on forest governance, deforestation, the bioeconomy, and sustainable business practices. She began her professional career more than two decades ago, focusing on natural resources, supply chains, risk management, and sustainability strategy. Aida Greenbury is internationally recognized for her role as Managing Director of Sustainability & Stakeholder Engagement at Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) for 13 years, where she led the company’s efforts to transition toward a zero-deforestation business model before stepping down from the position in 2017. She subsequently remained a shareholder advisor until 2019.
Since leaving APP, Aida Greenbury has been active in various global environmental initiatives and organizations. She serves as a Senior Counselor & Sustainability Advisor at APCO Worldwide and is a member of the company’s International Advisory Council. Greenbury has also been involved with organizations such as the World Bioeconomy Forum, where she sits on the Board of Advisors, and previously served as an advisor to the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) Foundation before resigning from its board in 2023. Other roles include advocating for and supporting smallholder oil palm farmers through her involvement as an advisor to the Serikat Petani Kelapa Sawit (SPKS), as well as participating in bioeconomy forums and international events such as COP, and engaging in sustainable bioeconomy discussions at various universities and institutions.
Aida is known for an approach that combines public policy, public–private collaboration, and community empowerment within the sustainability agenda. She frequently speaks at international forums on issues such as tropical forest conservation, landscape protection, bioeconomy development, and the role of communities and smallholders in sustainable agriculture and forestry practices. She is widely recognized for her role in promoting responsible business practices, particularly in relation to forest protection, climate change, and community engagement.
