Village Profile

Mondi Village is located in Sekadau Hulu Subdistrict, Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan Province, covering an area of 95.04 km² (9,504 hectares). It borders Sungai Sambang Village to the north, Tapang Perodah Village to the east, Sunsong Village to the south, and Cupang Gading Village to the west. The village has a population of 1,569 people across 387 households.
Mondi is divided into six hamlets: Mondi, Gedet, Bandan, Sungai Agung, Sengiang, and Jangka Riang. The majority of residents 706 people work as farmers.
Historically, the name “Mondi” derives from the word Bondih, referring to a tawak (small gong) hanging from the top of a sengkuang tree growing along the Menterap River. The shift from Bondih to Mondi is believed to have resulted from easier pronunciation over time.
Before becoming an administrative village, Mondi consisted of several traditional kampungs (settlements), each led by a Temenggong and Domung, later replaced by village heads and customary leaders. Over time, these kampungs were reorganized and merged into the present-day hamlets. Some traditional names are still used, such as Kampung Bau (RT Bau) in Dusun Gedet, Kampung Landas in Dusun Gedet and Dusun Bandan, and Kampung Sungai Agung Hulu and Hilir in Dusun Sungai Agung. Previously, Kampung Bongkit was part of Mondi but is now administratively included in Sungai Sambang Village.
